Geauga Lake in Aurora, OH. For a short period of time I think it was the largest amusement park by area. ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) Almost all of it is fenced off and inaccessible by motorcycle, but the sea of parking had some wooden boll a rds I could drive around and get in .

I think I went here once as kid, but I don’t remember much of it. It was extremely ambitious, but ultimately it was located in the middle of nowhere and within 100 miles or so of Ceda r Point, which is much more well known.

I worked a few blocks away from the site of Astroworld in Houston. It had been completely demolished though (at great expense), and was basically just overflow parking for the Astrodome complex (really only needed during the Rodeo). Six flags thought they’d make a ton of money selling it, but the fact that it’s been empty for over a decade gives you a hint as to how true that is. The only remnant is a slightly fancier than normal bridge connecting the park area to the Astrodome complex.

It seems like there’s as many abandoned amusement parks are operational ones now... I guess they do take a pretty insane amount of money to run though.

Yeah, operating costs must be high, and same with liability. In Houston they went from this (2002, park was demolished after 2005) :

Sad. I enjoyed Astroworld when I was a kid.

I went to Sea World several times as a child. I have lots of fond memories of it. We never did go to the amusement park though.
